U.S. ethanol output last week climbed to a five-week high of 1.11 million bpd, a record for the week and a rebound from April’s seasonal lull. On a four-week average basis, implied ethanol usage reached its highest since last August, helping keep inventories contained. However, implied U.S. gasoline demand has sagged in recent weeks with pump prices hovering near four-year highs.

Buying the November soybean 11.20 put and selling the 10.20 put for 18 cents (plus fees). This is a limited hedge strategy based on the November soybean futures, and it expires on 10/23. If November soybean futures are trading below 10.20 on 10/23, both legs of the spread would execute and offset with 1.00 premium. It is intended as a hedge, setting a floor at 11.20 but limited to 10.20.
Soybeans have put in the second shoulder of a potential head and shoulders topping formation after failing to extend Monday's recovery. The Trump/Xi meeting did not yield any new commitments for additional U.S. soybean purchases. Funds were long over 200k contracts as of May 12.

It's been a few years since we've seen consistent rains in May here. We had a week of warmer temperatures, and crops really responded in a positive manner. The heavy rains have also caused plenty of issues through this part of Indiana, causing many acres to need replanting. We're saturated enough now that even a rain of just a couple tenths feels like 2-3 inches. That's making it extremely difficult to get back in the field to fix the drowned out areas or perform complete replanting of whole fields where needed. This weather pattern could make post plant spraying interesting if it persists, to say the least.
